Welcome, Shelley Somes

Please join us in welcoming Shelley Somes to the Healthy Acadia team!

Shelly joins our Emergency Housing Supports Team as support staff for our seasonal overnight warming center, located at Healthy Acadia’s INSPIRE Recovery Community Center in Ellsworth.

Support staff at the seasonal overnight warming center provide a warm and welcoming place for guests and connect them to additional community resources such as food pantries, recovery coaching, warm clothing, and other social supports. Our teams supports people by building trust, listening, and collaborating with partners.

Shelley is a Recovery Coach, and Certified Peer Support Specialist. She currently resides in Cherryfield.

Shelley, what prompted you to join the Healthy Acadia team?

I am a person in long-term recovery. While I was in active use, I was an unhoused individual and I wanted to give back to my community by providing support to those who are struggling, without judgment and stigma.

What most inspires you about Healthy Acadia's work?

Helping people overcome hardships and thrive.

What most inspires you on a personal level?

Art. Nature. Family. Community. Faith.

What is your favorite thing to do, or place to be, in Maine, and why?

I love being in the woods because it calms me and keeps me grounded.
