Perseverance, Prevention, and Promise

Healthy Acadia’s newly-designated Community Recovery Center, located at 24 Church St. in Ellsworth, was one of 14 recovery centers across the state to host in-person viewing of Maine Governor Janet Mill’s 3rd Annual Opioid Response Summit on Thursday, July 15, 2021. The summit, themed “Perseverance, Prevention, and Promise,” offered panels, presentations, and stories from Maine people in recovery. The summit took place just a day after the New York Times released an article with information from the CDC showing more than 87,000 overdose deaths in 2020 due to drug overdose.

“The summit was informative, thought-provoking, and inspiring,” said Beth Alteri, Volunteer Recovery Coordinator at Healthy Acadia. “Seeing the number of overdoses continue to rise in Maine and across the United States makes events like this one and the work that the Recovery and Prevention teams are doing at Healthy Acadia so important.”

More than 15 Healthy Acadia staff members and community members attended the summit at the Church St. Center. The Governor's summit marked the first public event to be held at the Center and was the first in-person event held by Healthy Acadia as a whole since prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Healthy Acadia will host a volunteer workday at the Center on Saturday, August 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in preparation for an open house event planned for September 18. If you would like to volunteer in any capacity at the Community Recovery Center please complete this form.
