Maine SNAP-Ed PSE Projects Help Create Healthy Local Places

Not only do our SNAP-Ed nutrition educators teach cooking and nutrition classes - they also support community food projects throughout the year. These PSE (Policy, Systems, and Environmental) Change Projects allow our nutrition educators to increase community access to healthy, fresh food. This year, our educators launched some incredibly impactful community food projects! 

In Washington County, Maine SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educator Allie Cook spent the year working with Lubec Food Pantry to provide recipes and taste tests to food pantry participants. With Allie’s support, Lubec Food Pantry patrons learned how to cook delicious and nutritious meals at home using fresh produce available at the pantry (and they loved how good it can taste!).

Allie also spent the year revitalizing a community garden in Calais. She worked together with community volunteers to rebuild the fence around the garden and prep the beds for planting next year. She loved working with local volunteers this past summer.
